Re-install your comp in 5 mins (answering to a stif post)

    Yes that's ghost

You should use nothon ghost 2003 (version after this one sucks because symantec bought the licence and changed product)

    Get the program.

    1) Then burn the iso file from the torrent
    2) Install your comp with all what you need. I mean make a proper installation with drivers, your favourite progs, your web access parameters...
    3) Take a additional hard drive internal or a usb hard drive
    4) Boot from the ghost CD
    5) Choose usb drivers in the menu if you use USB or IDE/SATA if you have internal
    6) It mounts your cd-rom drive with letter C: or D: (written)
    7) Type C: or D: (for enter in your Cdrom drive)
    8) type : cd support
    9) If you Have IDE HDD, Type: ghost
If you have SATA HDD, type: ghost NOIDE
    10) If you want to save a partition only : In the menu chosse Local>Partition>To image and then choose addition disk (or partition) you have put.
If you want to save the whole disk : Local>Disk>To image
    11) The it asks you for compression : High, Low, No

If you choose High, the size of your backup will take the less space as possible. But it will take a long time when you will have to reinstall (30 mins).

    Low (15 mins)

    No (3 to 5 mins)

    Then your system is saved.

Now you have a crash or a shit and you want reinstall.

    Repeat steps 4) to 9)

    Then

    10) Choose Local>Partition> FROM image
    or
    Local>Partition> FROM disk

    Then all is installed again.

Works with all windows not with linux.

If you have a SATA CDROM it may not work. If it isn't you have to put an IDE CRdom

i use norton ghost for years .. it re-installs my complete computer with windows xp in only 10 minutes !!

only thing, i have a second partition of my hard drive, where my ghost file is at, I have 2 ghost files: a clean one, with a clean windows installation, and a fabric one, with drivers, virus scanner etc.

    It already is.

What about the complression?? There must be some difference between high and no (other than the time). Otherwise everyone would choose "no".. What benefits do you get by using high compression (slower)?

the size of your pc backup will be little if you compress

More you compress more it's little

Usefull if you haven't a lot of free space in your usb disk for example
