defragmentation is gone

I can't defragment anymore . I click on defragment and nothing happens. I mean absolutely nothing. I also tried it in the harddrive options:same result. I use vista ultimate.
pls help, my pc is soo slow...

You need 15% of freespace to defragment. If you already have, try using an external program, they give much better results.

152 of 467 gb are free. I would like not to install useless software. I read that those tools need much longer to defragment(many hours). can't I just fix this problem?
the dfrgui.exe is there btw but when I run it nothing happens. normally a window should open where I can adjust the automatical defragmentation.

When I downloaded a program to defrag my Vista laptop, it went about 10-20 times faster than the built-in defragger (which is total crap btw) and was a lot more effective than it as well

You just have to choose between using MS paint or photoshop. But if photoshop is a lot faster and gives you better results, I wouldn't call it a useless program. If you are in desperate need for a paint program, that is.

You can always uninstall it once you're done. That's what I do with anti viruses/spywares etc..

I've tested a couple aswell (O&O, DisKeeper, PerfectDisk) and they always gave me better results than the Windows one.

But I guess you could use the Vista built-in tool using command lines, I know before SP1, you had to.

and does nobody here know how to fix the defrag tool of vista? are here other vista sp2 users that have this problem?

yea many people say this but why? the speed of both os are nearly the same now and vista's driver problems are fixed already, too. vista is not so bad imo
