and by that time both cards will be outdated and another single GPU would come out and destroy this SLI config. Seriously, it's pointless. It's like having 970 right now and waste like 170$ to buy another one, whilst dealing with higher power consumption, higher temps, noise and 4 Gigs of VRAM - just like Amco mentioned.

lets be honest, gpus nowadays deliver more than enough power to play any game

a 1080 Ti solo smashes all existing games in all existing resolutions ez

a while ago cards simply did not have the computing power to single display detailed graphics with high fps, so you needed to add another card

    why is that?

the main reason for the brutal performance of nowadays cards is simply defined: 4K

those who dont use 4k resolutions currently got a paradise situation, even a 135€ 1050 Ti delivers massive power for Full HD or the 80€ GT 1030 would be enough for most games too

most of the games are still based on a very old engine or textures, they dont even requiere raw gpu power while nvidia and amd are in a constant competition to tweak their chips

hm sad. just stay a "legend" on gz these days. inactive since decades or activ as "Alias" with vpn lol.

it would be great if they could actually use that raw GPU performance, we'd probably not need to change any gpu before the next 30 years at least (with a 1080Ti), that'd justify spending 800€ for it in a time electronics usually comes obsolete after 4 or 5 years.

my 780 is from 2013 and still delivers enough power even for wqhd and would do so in 2019 i am sure

i think that 1080 Ti will be a reliable pixel accelerator for the next 8 years from now on

    that‘s like 100€ per year though -

I wonder if 80°c is a dangerous temp for an i5 CPU. Anyway scores updated

its not dangerous but you could encounter thermal throttle during games when the processor underclocks itself
that happens at 83 degree or so also your bios could turn the pc off. it would be interesting at what Vcore your cpu operates

i am wondering for what price you purchased the 1070, since the 1080 only costs you 80€ more new right at the moment

    400 bucks, Gaming Z edition

I checked the net and they told the cpu could throttle at 100°c, i'm currently playing the 2015's NFS in ultra and I have no issue at all, I OCed my cpu at 4.5ghz with the mobo's preset. I'll check what HWMonitor says once i'm done and if the temp exceeds 85°c I will downclock it back to its factory value

Actually besides growing benchmark values I feel no difference in game

94°c package... no problem but I don't like the idea of making the cpu heat more (from 72°c @ 3.8 - 4.2ghz (variable) to 94°c @ constant 4.5ghz). performance gain is too small (if not even noticable).
