Question Extracting Serious Sam 2 textures

Looks like nobody's been in the Serious Sam 2 section in a while (and apologies if this post is in the wrong section):

Does anyone know of a tool or method for extracting Serious Sam 2 textures from .gro/.tex files?

Also, I really need to reinstall & play through this game again. So much fun...

    Hi there, thanks!

I have my SS2 discs somewhere, it's just a matter of digging through boxes to find them. Or I might just get lazy and buy it off Steam

There are some textures I want to grab from the game, but I can't find any method (dragon unpacker, etc) that can extract them from .tex files

Hello and welcome on our old forums

sam 2 is just few bucks on steam, would be easier to give the coin, I don't remember how does the files works but I don't think it was made the same way as classics, if I remember well it was bit more complicated than that

    ^ steam profile access ^

Hi! In Serious Editor 1 you could easily convert .tex into .tga without any additional tools. At least, I still remember how to do it Ain't this possible in SE2?
We don't have that much mappers here, especially those who work/worked in SE2/SE3 and newer ones

Hello there and thank you all for the welcomes!

So I found & installed my SS2, used DragonUnpacker to extract the .tex files from the .gro files.

I tried using the tex converter but that only works for 1st & 2nd Encounter, it doen't recognize SS2's .tex format.

As for the SS2 editor, I never used it before and can't find any tutorials on it. I poked at it for a while, but it's pretty byzantine, I could find no obious way to load/view/export textures.

Oh well. No biggie. At least I have SS2 installed so I can play it again

    Cheers

You don't have to install special tools to grab files from .gro archives, WinRar normally works with .gro by the way, .gro is just renamed .zip, at least this is what I've learned during my small time of mapping/modding xD
