from neoseekerOn March 1, 2010 some of the Original (Non-Slim) Playstation 3 models could not connect to the Playstation Network as it was encountering an unplanned outage that is affecting certain console owners around the world. Users trying to sign in encounter the error code 8001050F, and are unable to sign in, play games, use dynamic themes and view/sync trophies.
Currently, the problem only resides within the 1st through to the 3rd generation Original PS3 units while the PS3 Slim appears to be completely unaffected. On turning on the console users noticed that the date had been reset to 31st December 1999 and that they were unable to sign in to the Playstation Network (PSN). Sony has confirmed there is an issue, and have essentially stated that “We are narrowing down the issue and continue to work to restore service to all.”
Many pre-Slim PlayStation 3 owners are experiencing error 8001050F on their consoles and it's preventing players from logging into the PlayStation Network plus improperly displaying or corrupting trophy data.
Sony has posted on their Twitter page stating that 120GB and 250GB Slim models are working correctly and they are looking into the situation. Users who have converged at the NeoGAF forums theorize the error is due to the PS3's internal clock having a leap year-related bug and are advising everyone to not use the console for at least 24 hours in the hope that the problem fixes itself.
We'll update when any significant developments arise. Definitely keep an eye on that Twitter page as well.
